The 2016 Macbook Pro might actually have the edge, even if very slightly, "because its a newer machine". I mainly want to find out the real world difference in terms of improved performance on Lightroom CC and PS CC for when I edit my 42MP files compared to my current macbook pro as the main reason i was looking for a new computer was because editing the 42MP files is a tad slow. Seeing as I do already own the mid 2012 macbook pro, and like you said should last a few more years, i'm seeing more and more sense to get the iMac for the best performance possible (between 2015 iMac vs 2016 Macbook Pro) 80-90% of the time. So regardless if i get the new 2016 macbook pro, or the 2015 iMac 27", I'll be working on a 27" display 80-90% of the time. But once I started to work more from my desk, I quickly purchased the thunderbolt display. The reason I bought the mid 2012 macbook pro in the first place because back then I had to be a lot more mobile and needed portability over most anything else.

I couldn't work full time on a 15" screen. I forgot to mention, that currently I actually use my mid 2015 macbook pro 15 connected to the 27" Thunderbolt Display. Thankyou very much for your time and advice. Can it use 2133MHz ram like the 2016 macbook pro?), 1TB flash storage (is this the same speed flash storage as the 2016 ram, as during the announcement it was said that the SSD drive on the 2016 macbook pro is really fast), R9 M395x with 4GB COMPARED to 2016 Macbook Pro 2.7GHz i7, 1TB PCIe-based SSD, Radeon Pro 460 with 4gb?

So my question is, how much better is the 2015 Imac 4Ghz i7, 8Gb ram as standard (will upgrade to 32gb or even 64gb Third party. However, if I purchase an Imac, which I assume is a more powerful machine than the 2016 macbook pro, I'll then beable to work on a more powerful machine 90% of the time, and make do with my current macbook pro for the times I do need to work away from desk.

If I buy the new macbook pro 2016, it'll make my current macbook pro redundant, as I doubt i could even sell it. I mostly work at my desk and only need to take my macbook pro with me every now and then. I've been waiting for the new Macbook Pro 15 to be announced, but now that it has, I've started thinking maybe the Imac is a better purchase for me. Obviously this wasn't as apparent when I worked on my olympus EM1 16MP files. I mostly use it for Lightroom CC and PS CC editing my Sony A7rii raw files and have found that most adjustments tends to take a second or so before it actually works. So I currently have a mid 2012 Macbook Pro 15" Retina, 2.6 GHz i7, 16GB ram, Nvidia Geforce GT 650M 1024 MB.

Bare in mind, I'm a noob on computer specs. Wondering if anyone has any insight on choosing between the 2 computers.
